Satisfy the DOT. With the Department of
Transportation's encouragement to pipeline operators to truly take into consideration the
difference of potentials from earth's surface to structure depth (and there is a
difference), there is a serious need for a tool that can easily achieve this goal. The new
IR Free Electrode Bar will allow you to obtain IR free pipe to soil
potential readings at almost any location on your pipeline system.
The Model IRF-1 Bar offers a very accurate
alternative to the relatively expensive, time consuming and maintenance intensive methods
of IR free testing, at a fraction of the cost. It allows you to take actual Cu/CuSO4 reference potentials within
inches of a structure, eliminating the chance of reading circuit resistance in the soil
between surface level and structure. You can effective measure the amount of IR by taking
potentials at earth surface level and also at structure level, then subtracting the
difference.
