collectors, batteries, support structures, and charge/output controllers.
The systems are supplied complete with all necessary components, hardware
and wiring (field assembly required).
- No exposed wiring.
- Antitheft hardware provided for
fastening of components.
- Heavy-duty steel support structure
is easy to assemble and erect.
- Various heights available (10'
pole height is standard).
- Heavy-duty battery enclosure with
plenty of room to make battery handling and maintenance as easy as
possible.
- Heavy gauge painted steel enclosure
for charge regulator/output control.

Sidewalk
Solar Systems
Model HCS-ORN
The HCS-ORN Sidewalk Solar System was
designed for use in metropolitan areas for gas distribution and utility
system protection where up to 1A of current is needed.
A spacious NEMA-3R enclosure houses the
battery and controls. It has two doors with a three-point latch and
locking hasp. The enclosure provides room for a large battery as well as
test equipment. The solar panel is protected against vandalism and theft.
Continuous potentiometer adjustment and
solid-state circuitry are provided for fine current control. All functions
are engraved into the instrument panel. A continuous reading voltmeter and
ammeter are standard. Compression lugs are provided for battery, solar,
and load connections.
Features of HCS-ORN Sidewalk Solar
System:
- Reduced Energy at Night (REN). This supply is designed to provide 100% of the daytime
current rating during daytime solar energy periods and 1/2 of the
daytime current setting to the ground bed at night.
- Constant voltage output with
continuous output adjustment of the voltage needed. Unit will provide
this output 24 hours a day.
- Charge regulator/output controller
with load drop and temperature compensation.
- Choice of batteries: 12 V NiCad
battery for minimum of 48 hours of battery operation, or 12 V lead-acid
battery for minimum of 100 hours of battery operation.
- Enclosure measures approximately
48" tall by 36" inches wide 16" deep. Heavy-duty steel channel is
provided for base mounting. Two-door enclosure includes screened louvers
for ventilation.
- Solar panel is a multi-crystalline
type with better than 14% efficiency. It is completely surrounded by a
metal frame, providing no external access. It is also protected from
vandalism by a 1/4" thick Lexan window that covers the entire panel
surface.

Water Tank Solar
Systems
Model HCSVPW
The HCSVPW Water Tank Solar System
was developed to provide cathodic protection for water tanks in remote
areas. It features two independent controls, one for tank or bowl inside
and another for tank bottom or riser protection. Constant voltage output
control is provided for the bottom / riser circuit. Constant voltage or
constant potential control is furnished for the tank / bowl circuit. This
power supply is shipped complete and ready for field assembly.
Features:
-
Constant Voltage Control
mode: In this mode of operation, the power supply output voltage is
set by the operator and is held constant at the setpoint. The
rectifier's output current changes as load resistance changes.
-
Constant Potential
Control mode: The operator has the capability of setting the desired
reference to structure potential over a wide range (0 - 2.5V). A
permanent reference half-cell is required for the constant potential
power supply to operate in potential control mode. The reference cell to
structure potential is sensed by the controller and compared to the set
potential programmed in by an operator. If there is a difference between
the two, the power supply automatically adjusts its output to compensate
for the difference.
Control
Unit:
- The HCSVPW has two separate controllable
outputs, a constant voltage control for the tank bottom/riser circuit
and a constant voltage or potential control for the tank inside / bowl
circuit.
- The water tank controller is a switching
DC-to-DC converter. Both anode controls allow fine adjustment from 0 to
rated voltage, so just the right amount of current can be applied to the
tank / riser circuit and the tank inside circuit.
- The charge controller is a precise
regulator with voltage control and temperature compensation for battery
protection. LEDs provide a visual indication of charge condition, base /
riser voltage operation, tank voltage control, tank potential control,
and load drop functions. Load drop removes the load from the system
whenever the battery terminal voltage drops to a preset level and
automatically picks up the load again once the battery has been at least
partially recharged.
Structure:
-
Sturdy, ten-foot long steel
support structures are provided with units requiring up to four solar
panels. All necessary hardware, wire, and conduit are provided with each
system. Theft resistant hardware is provided for all mechanical
connections. The support structure is designed for easy field assembly
and installation. Heavy gauge steel enclosures with hinged lids and
sturdy lock hasps are provided for battery box and regulator - other
materials are available as an option.
Solar Panels:
-
Efficient solar cells
deliver superior watts per square foot of module surface area compared
to competitive products. Reduced solar array area results in significant
system cost savings.
-
Each solar cell is
manufactured with a unique and proprietary bypass diode function that
prevents power loss and undesirable heat generation if a module is
temporarily shaded.
-
Crystalline solar cells, low
iron, tempered glass front surface, EVA/Tedlar laminate, anodized
aluminum frame.
Battery:
-
100 hours of lead-acid
autonomy is standard with lead acid battery units.
-
Standard lead-acid
batteries are absorbed electrolyte type designed for solar application
and carry a five-year warranty. Other battery types are also available.
-
Battery voltage matches
or exceeds voltage rating of power supply.
